The Breeding Bird Survey has been conducted every year in North America for many decades, providing one of the most expansive and long-running datasets about animal biodiversity in the world. But, in their most readily accessible form, these datasets are not easy to map and analyze.The HGIS Lab undertook an effort to make these datasets accessible and user-friendly for people who want to map evolving bird diversity over the past 40 years.

The resulting dataset includes observations of 555 bird species along 1,381 separate 25-mile routes, for each year between 1967 and 2007. These datasets are now available to researchers for mapping and spatial analysis.
