Research Projects Overview

While the Historical GIS Lab provides support and expertise to researchers studying a broad range of historical eras, topics, and locations, it also hosts an active research program with a more specific focus.  Thematically, the Lab specializes in environmental and agricultural history, including studies of land use, wind erosion, and socio-ecological metabolism in historical farm systems.  Our geographical focus is the western United States and Canada, especially the Great Plains grasslands that stretch from Texas and New Mexico in the south to Saskatchewan and Alberta in the north.
